tina-fey-margot-robbie-wtf16-01bI haven’t talked to Jackie about it but I was underwhelmed by the trailer for the new Ghostbusters. It seems like it’s a rehash of the first two movies in terms of plot and characters. I get that they want to revive Ghostbusters for a new generation but couldn’t they have put together something original but keeping the spirit of the classics. Maybe that’s just too much to ask.

Anyway, if you haven’t already noticed, I’ve drawn in for Jackie this week. He’s gone walkabout again. I don’t know what that means but it sounds vaguely Australian. This week’s pop culture links talks a lot about the magic of TV and the internet in various forms. And I thrown in some stuff about the Oscars and Ghostbusters which will be the only time that those two things will be in the same sentence this year.

But before we get to the links, let’s kick off with Tina Fey and Margot Robbie who star in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

House of Cards is back this weekend. As someone who love politics and news and The Newsroom and Game of Thrones, I find this show dreadfully dull. So what else can we watch on Netflix? (Pajiba)

Kanye really hates The Pirate Bay. So why is he on there and using a site that rips audio from YouTube videos? (news.com.au)

March 1st brought new cable regulations forcing stripped down basic cable TV packages in Canada. The problem is that the new rules don’t stop price gouging. (CBC News)

While many Hollywood types were openly backing Barack Obama’s Presidential candidacy, few are backing Bernie Sanders. Susan Sarandon says there are plenty of Bernie supporters but they’re afraid of the backlash of supporting a losing effort or someone who isn’t Hilary. (THR)

Now that Leo won his Oscar, who is the next Oscar-less actor that will get the same championing treatment from the press? How about Amy Adams? At least she’s a lot more likeable and a damn fine actress. (Mashable)

Sam Smith somehow won the Oscar for original song. The big news was that he claimed that he was the first openly-gay Oscar winner. That’s not strictly true. (Vanity Fair)

There was a little Easter egg in the Ghostbusters trailer that leads to a featurette about the science of the proton pack. (/Film)

Kylie Minogue is trying to stop Kylie Jenner from trademarking Kylie in the US because of the damage that allowing Jenner to have it would cause to the Kylie brand. She’s right, you know. (BBC)

THR polled people in Hollywood to see what the all-time funniest movie lines are. If you ever wondered why most Hollywood comedies suck, look at this list. (The Hollywood Reporter)

So the new Ghostbusters looks kinda shit. It’s a remake of 1 and 2 while trying not to look like it. Anyway, someone re-cut the trailer and it looks properly promising.
